Broadly speaking there are two types of credit card terminal. The first one is the traditional paid terminal and the other one is the free terminal. Paid terminals can again be classified into line terminals and wireless terminals.
One of the primary concerns of any business organization in procurement of any article is the cost. Ordinarily the cost of terminal can range from $99 to over $1000. It depends on the features you desire to use and the additions of a printer to the terminal that will determine how much cost has to be paid by you.
Entrepreneurs may require multiple merchant accounts in their terminals for business transactions. It that is your requirement then you can go for the one. Normally a terminal can hold maximum nine accounts and when multiple businesses share single terminal, such terminals could be of great value. The facilities may not be available in the free credit card terminal.
Most of the terminals perform by dialing out through phone lines that have transaction time of about ten seconds. Such line could be shared line or you can also use modems of fax machines. However the important thing to remember is that the line should not have calls waiting or the transaction may get disturbed and may not be processed properly.
Of course such line problems will not be there for the wireless credit card terminal. A better option will be to use the faster IP connections or DSL for access to the internet and processing of cards in the terminal in lieu of the traditional phone lines.
